Clinical practices such as nursing assistance starting out with an interview is a function that fully requires complete communication and awareness skills. This means that the person to handle the interview with the patient need to be closely giving attention to what the patient has to say, especially that it concerns a direct reference to how the treatment that a person undergoes is actually affecting his or her point of recovery.

In the video presented, there were three primary mistakes that the clinician has incurred. One is lack of focus, which could be accounted for her constantly neglecting her duty as she talks with a colleague and [to someone else] over the phone. The other mistake would be that of constantly referring to her notes without necessarily listening to what her patient actually has to say. Although there are notes, the fact that the patient is there, it is best to hear it from the patient not for confirmation alone, but for actual report update; thus imposing that the practitioner actually listen to what the patient has to say with regards her case. The third mistake would be that the clinician was a bit intriguing; at some point even irritating to the patient as to when she was inquiring about the thoughts of the patient; one that might have been the reason why she actually saw her for therapy. The patient clearly felt uneasy with this and just answered ‘no’ for the sake of ‘not talking further about it’.

While the one who interviewed the patient was clearly not the one giving the therapy to her, it was still her responsibility to keep a good record of the conversation as it will give the therapist an idea on what she should work on with the patient the next time that she comes in for the session. This increases the possibility of her recovery from the situation she is engaged in. In this case, poor communication handling on the part of the clinician was somewhat a pitfall for the whole healthcare system that existed in the said scenario.
