How Media Represents Women and How the Society Responds
What makes a person sexually aggressive? Should one who is sexually aggressive be considered a person who developed a condition on his own and not as someone who is further affected by the people thriving around him? Around the globe, the change upon the presentation of women through media has drastically affected the values of the human society imposed to represent their reaction on the feminine members of the society’s overall population. Why, even children as young as seven years of age are now capable of insisting on the most undesirable treatment of women due to what they see in televisions and in magazines, which are readily displayed in local newsstands.
Somehow, the exploitation of women has created a low esteem on how the feminine members of the society are viewed, moreover, respected. Relatively, the insistence of such reaction creates a responsive culture that makes an indicative condition among human individuals as they intend to respect the women as individuals separate from the role that they are known to play in the society. Noting the condition of influence that media has on the people, response towards their representations create a great impact on how people develop their way of thinking. In relation to this, a particular personal experience proves this particular fact. I was looking through a magazine stand in the corner of an open street where a woman was also looking through the area and two children looking through a choice of children’s magazine. There was this particular colored magazine that showed an almost nude woman which caught the attention of the young boys. For a while they were laughing, and then a little bit later, they looked at the woman standing beside them and smiled as if they were insulting her or anything. As a result, the woman lashed at them and left the stand without buying any reading materials.
To note, this situation has become a common picture in the society today. Women are often dressed the way they want to. This often involves a sense of liberalization. The freedom to wear what she wants makes a woman choose whatever clothing she thinks would further enhance her physical assets. This of course differs especially in consideration with the behavior of the individual who is involved in the choice of what particular dress to wear. However, in consideration with the obvious situation today, women are often presented in media to be the epitome of physical beauty. Baring much skin in pictorials, magazines often utilize women models and present them with less up to no clothing at all. The world has become numb to seeing women with less clothes on. In fact, this situation has become a common factor in the human society.
This suggests that somehow, whatever becomes evident on the actions of several individuals, other people tend to respond accordingly. The message of the body language that a person sends is often much stronger than a verbal conversation shared between two people. This is the reason why the change on how women are viewed by the society today could also be accounted to be dependent on how the women change through time as well. It is rather evident that as the women change, the men’s value and vision of who they are and how they should be treated also changes.
The chain of reaction then further explains why men turn out to be less respective of women today compared to the years before. Treating women as mere objects of passion and desire has become a common ground of interest among men today. Perhaps impacted by the presentation that the media uses, but also it could be noted that it is the women’s attitude towards themselves that affect the thinking of the men. Perhaps a change on the behavior of women, the way they talk, the way they dress and the way they handle themselves, could regain the respect of men towards the female members of the society. Relatively though, these changes could only happen if the women themselves would understand and accept the principle of chain reaction that creates response among human individuals today.
