Pages: 2

Words: 452

Essay

Earlier in this chapter you read about techniques by the writer of process analysis use to keep their work interesting and clear. Find examples of such techniques.

The basis of the writer techniques are based on the matter of providing a interesting aspect of literature that brings into perspective the content of the literature. Examples are providing the solution of a duel by using an old-fashioned gun battle and using historical background on the pistol duels. The context of the examples is based on providing an interesting perspective on the topics of discussion.

As you would expect, Goodheart lists steps involve in a duel in chronological order. Why does he arrange these steps into four separate categories?

He separates the steps so as to provide a logical flow of ideas that will make the literature appear more interesting and it makes more sense based on the general topic. The article structure makes it easier to read and follow making it simplistic, which makes the article readable to various age groups.

What does the author propose as the purpose for dueling?

The author deems that purpose of the duel is so as to provide a basic solution to any conflicts that may arise. The author perceives the solution as a vintage aspect of problem and it can be used as a concrete determinant of any given issue.

What method or methods of development analysis, does this essay use?

The development analysis is based on the use of facts that are relatable to the element of dueling. The breakdown of the article based on the steps provides the ideal illustration of the developmental analysis that structures the entire article. In this case, the developmental structure is the general structure of the whole article.

Why does the author include a separate list of equipment? Why didn’t he just include these items in the text as he went along?

The use of a separate list of equipment is a simpler tool for any individual that would be interested in using the author’s ideology for dueling. The list is much simpler in comparison to reading the list in a paragraph, and thus it will be easier for the reader to obtain the necessary tools for a duel.

You learned in preparing to Read that Goodheart creates humor by mixing informal and formal languages. You can find one such example in paragraph 1. Look for at least one other and explain why it is funny.

Another example of Goodheart’s comical nature can be found in the last paragraph; ‘if you happen to die, “go off with as good a grace as possible.’ He is implying that an individual in a duel should die with grace, which is comical based on the question how does an individual die with grace?
