How to Get Over a Break Up, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 386

Essay

As Adele said, sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead. Statistically it’s proven that it takes about the same length of a relationship to get over its breakup. While this may be true, the pain of a broken heart can make dealing with the break seem endless. Here is how to get over a broken heart, effectively and efficiently.

First, remove all pictures, mementos, or anything that might remind you of your ex. The concept here is out of sight out of mind.  Get started early on starting a new life by living like a single person. Single people don’t have pictures of their ex as decoration.

Second, work more or pickup a hobby. Time alone should be invested in improvement of one’s self. This can be done by paying more attention to work, exercise or picking up a hobby like learning a new language.

Third, spend time with family. Early in a breakup, one can find themselves alone more often than they might like. In some ways alone time is very healthy after a hard breakup, but in other ways it can make the process more difficult. Try to spend some of this time with family. Family helps to remember the person you were before being in the relationships.

Fourth, spend time with friends. Being around friends can distract from the pain of a hard breakup. Usually people date and meet people initially in groups, so hanging out with friends is also an opportune way to meet new people.

Fifth, start dating again. Once you have spent some time out with friends and familiarized yourself with single life and the pool of other single people, start flirting again, and dating. Engage people you find attractive or interesting to see if they might like to spend time with you outside of a group setting. The fastest way to get over your ex is to spend time with someone else.

Sixth, learn from the mistakes of the last relationship. The point of getting over a breakup is to not carry any extra baggage into the next relationship. This can’t be done effectively without being honest about the problems that made the relationship fail.

Finally, if all of these steps are carried out, getting over a broken heart can be much less painful, and done in a much briefer period of time.
