How to Overcome Any Prejudices and Weaknesses, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 291

Essay

We all have our own prejudices and weaknesses. These prejudices and weaknesses can be one or many of the issues that deal with the diversities that have been discussed in your book and/or classroom lectures. How will you overcome any prejudices and weaknesses you may have in order to ensure equality in your classroom?

In order to ensure equality in the classroom it is important to overcome any personal prejudices or weaknesses.  The best method of overcoming prejudice is that of dialogue and teamwork.  By working together we are able to examine points of concern and look at both sides of the argument.  By working together we are able to understand the different points of view and reach acceptable common ground. Weaknesses can be examined in line with strengths, opportunities and threats.  A SWOT analysis is a good way of looking at this from a pictorial representation.  The use of Forcefield Analysis enables you to examine the drivers and constrainers of weaknesses. A behavioral approach can then be modified by strengthening or reducing the appropriate driving or constraining forces.

In order to become an effective teacher I would introduce the following personal qualities:

  1. Empathy — I would try to empathize with the students and get to understand their concerns, motivations and learning constraints.  As such I would try to be supportive of their learning needs
  2. Good Listener — I would try to be a deep listener and develop a level of understanding with the pupils
  3. Equality — I would treat all students equally regardless of gender, ability, or status
  4. Discipline — It is important to have respect for the learning process and the teacher. The learning starts here and is maintained through adult life.
  5. Kindness – it is important to foster the learning process by introducing mutual respect.
