How to Test and Validate Database Queries, Research Paper Example

Pages: 1

Research Paper

Database testing is also referred to as data-testing or back end testing. The process involves locating testable items that are not presented to the user, and includes an assessment of internal process and storage. Specifically, testing is used to validate the database tables, schema, columns, indexes, and data duplication, among other tasks. Generally, Structured Query Language (SQL) is utilized to achieve this. There are several forms of database testing and validation.

Schema testing is done to make sure that “the schema mapping between the front end and back end are similar” (Guru, n.d.). This is done by first validating the schema formats that are affiliated with the databases of interest. Specifically, the unmapped tables, views, and columns must be verified. In addition, there is a need to verify whether the heterogeneous databases all conform with the application mapping. DBUnit integrated with Ant are utilized for mapping testing. SQL are used to check and query the schema of the database. Column testing, stored procedures testing, trigger testing, and functional database options are also available for testing database queries. Google now has a testing tool that can be used as well (Google, n.d.). However, testing the schema is one of the most commonly used approaches used to ensure that database queries are efficiently tests and validated. The organization of data could lead to different methods being used.

To validate the server, it is necessary to first check the database server configurations. Next, the extent of authorization of the user must be checked. Last, the database server should be examined to determine whether it is able to carry out the work that it necessary. If this is not the case, it should be optimized.
