Essay

The presence of a cell phone within the vicinity where two parties are engaged in interaction has the possibility of affecting their relationship. Cell phones are conventionally associated with multifunction and they are currently indispensable gadgets in the lives of many people across the world. Research studies have indicated that, the presence of cell phones has the agility of affecting interpersonal connections through facilitating constant keeping in touch among the people. It is however proven that, the same cell phones can potentially harm the relationship among the people. The availability of a phone, even when not in use, can have detrimental consequences in interpersonal relationships.

The quality of relationship among people may however not be affected by the presence of a cell phone if the topic under discussion is merely casual. This is so possibly because of lack of seriousness in the topic and the possibility that no significance consequences are attached to the topic with regard to personal interests. However, if the topic under discussion is serious and meaningful, the quality of relationship among the parties concerned may be affected in a detrimental way by availability of the cell phone in the environment of discussion. Deteriorating relationships among pairs engaged in interaction in the vicinity of a cell phone have been documented through research. Some feelings of less trust as well as indication of reduced empathy have been documented in this respect.

The engagement of parties in an interaction where the environment is neutral and no cell phone within reach has been associated with enhancing the relationship among the parties through better connectedness, empathy, closeness as well as interpersonal trust. These are crucial building blocks in a relationship. According to past research, the cell phones are associated with a myriad of functionalities where they can be used as social, entertainment, and instrumental gadgets. This makes the cell phones to potentially distract the attention of concerned parties from the prevailing environment. The phones serves as crucial gadgets in reminding people of the extensive networks that facilitates connections thus hinders the aptitude for the people to connect with their immediate neighbors. The use of cell phones has also been associated with reduction in the social consciousness among individuals.

When a person is engaged in an interaction with strange people that really matters, it is prudent to account for the effects that using the phone may have on the people. The presence of the cell phone could also be sufficiently bad to the extent of affecting their interpersonal relationship. Preparing an important conversation with important people therefore requires that the cell phone is left afar from the environment of interaction.

The interaction of two parties in an intimate as well as small environment while not in close proximity with a phone is a source of greater warmth, quality time as well as closeness as compared to a similar situation but with one or both parties making use of the phone. Phones are important tools that facilitates connection to the entire planet, and this is an issue that can potentially make an individual to lose the connections with the people who are immediately close to one another.
