Human Activity Role in Causing Climate Change, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 362

Essay

For the past years, a drastic change in the climate has been taking place owing to the activities of man. There has been so much activity that occasions increase in carbon dioxide in the environment, thus, the greenhouse effect. The burning of fossil fuel and deforestation is just a few examples on how human activity causes an increase in carbon dioxide emission. The increase has since early 1700 keep rising. According to scientist, higher concentration of carbon dioxide in the environment grows the greenhouse effect causing the planet to be warmer (Pidwirny, 2010).

However, it is prudent to determine how much temperature change in the globe has been a result of the solar activity and the irregularities of the earths’ orbit around the sun. The volcanic eruptions are also the major cause of the earths’ heating up (Bianchi, 2010).

Changes in the arctic sea, the general moisture in the atmosphere, salty nature of parts of the Atlantic sea is consistent with human activities that affect the environment negatively. Further to this, there has been a poor record keeping of the historical happenings such as drought, floods, and hurricanes.

The massive deforestation that paves way to farming liberates a lot of carbon emission into the atmosphere. As the wood rots, the carbon store inside it is released into the environment. In rice growing regions as well, the flooding of the farms give rise to the release of methane gas, a same occurrence as to the wetlands regions.

Thermal pollution is also a human activity that directly warms up the lower parts of the atmosphere. This may lead to change in the climate as well.

Large scale nuclear war is a major contributor to the global warming in parts of Asia. Such activity can be relatively associated with the frequent earthquakes in those parts of the world.

The patterns employed for land use by man is also a sure cause of climate change. Urbanization, keeping of livestock causes overgrazing and poor use of agricultural land will often cause a change in the climate.
