Human Resource and Business Ethics, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 281

Essay

Question 1: As we study recruiting and talent selection, put yourself in the role of an HR recruiter and consider the following question. Do companies find good employees, or do good employees find companies?

I believe that companies find good employees. This is because in the 21st century, there is a high rate of graduates leaving tertiary education institutions. However, theoretical aptitude contrasts with practical and on the job skills. In a multitude of potential employees, Human resources departments in organizations have evolved to be able to set up measures that are capable of identifying good employees and those employees with the potential to become competent and influential leaders in their profession.

Companies manage to attract and retain employees not by increasing compensation, but by providing on the job incentives that create and efficient and conducive work environment for potential and existing employees. Organizations achieve this by providing employees with incentives such as house loans and car loans aimed at placing the employee at a better position financially and socially, allowing them to enjoy and appreciate working for the organization.

Question 2: Can business and management ethics be taught?

Business and Management ethics can be taught. However, the adoption of business and management ethics is relative to the individual or organization in question. Recent ethical scandals involving NewsCorp, Barings Bank, Olympus, JGC Corporation and Panalpins, all point towards the internalization of ethics. Organizations can in the end teach business and management ethics to its employees, if and only if the organization’s corporate culture resonates with these ethics. An organization can only be considered to be ethical if its corporate cultures is in line with the very ethical standards against which it is being measured.
