Introduction
Human services personnel must demonstrate ethical responsibility and accountability in all areas of practice. This is supported by the expression of core values that allow employees to work effectively with their clients to work towards solutions to their problems and concerns. From a moral perspective, the role of human services is to conduct responsible business and adhere to established rules and regulations while considering value-based approaches to achieving responsible outcomes. These developments also have a positive impact on the human services industry and its objectives to provide compassionate, supportive, and appropriate services to clients that will improve their lives and allow them to achieve greater relief and contentment in their lives.
Analysis
There are a number of key principles to consider in human services that influence moral decision-making processes, such as autonomy, beneficence, and nonmaleficence, amongst others. These guiding principles motivate human service employees and allow them to take steps towards the development of solutions that will have mutually beneficial outcomes for clients and their families. Those persons who depend on the work of human services personnel must be able to trust in their abilities and to recognize that their concerns will be addressed with a reasonable plan of action. Human services personnel must support autonomy and recognize that clients need to feel empowered and have a greater sense of self-control, even under the most difficult environments. Autonomy is critical in supporting human services because it provides clients with an opportunity to express their views, to share ideas, and to recognize their own value and self-worth, in spite of these challenges. The work of human services personnel is instrumental in achieving positive results in the lives of those who are disadvantaged or who cannot achieve full independence without the support of others.
Other factors to consider include beneficence, which is typically characterized as a means of preserving wellbeing and addressing clients and their specific needs with respect and courtesy at all times. Kindness and respect are key contributors in achieving successful outcomes for human services clients; therefore, personnel must be cognizant of the challenges and obstacles that they might face when working with personnel to recognize practical solutions to serious problems. Unfortunately, one of the most challenging areas of human services is the realization of nonmaleficence, which is characterized as negative actions taken against human beings with the intent to achieve harm. This is an unfortunate reality of human experience but must be minimized as best as possible to reduce the risks associated with negative outcomes for clients who experience these behaviors.
Conclusion
Human services employees play a critical role in supporting positive outcomes for their clients and in recognizing humanity and the need to exemplify core values in all employee-client interactions. These core values serve as the moral and ethical basis for achieving positive outcomes for clients who face a variety of risks in their lives. Basic humanity and decency must be exercised towards all clients through the provision of respect and support for clients who otherwise would face serious struggles and other conditions that may limit their potential progress and overall success. Human services personnel must act in a reasonable and ethically responsible manner so that their clients are served under core values, mutual respect, compassion, admiration, and autonomy in order to achieve greater progress for the clients that are served. These efforts are essential to the success of the human services industry and its overall impact on basic humanity and wellbeing for individuals and families, thereby demonstrating ethical accountability and responsibility in a reasonable and practical manner.
