The purpose of this search is evaluating quality of the above named website. Specific criteria used for this evaluation encompasses an assessment of the content, validation and gathering background information supportive of the content being used. A second feature relating the primary factor pertains to visual distinctions of this site in relation to others sharing similar content or that of an academic journal. Usually since content is displayed as a web page, in meeting the expectation that viewers be motivated to stay on the page and read, content graphics are used generously. This is a major difference with Journal publications and websites like the one being assessed (Melissa, 2013). .
For example, the Hydrogen Monoxide Research Division website opening page highlights three distinct features heading the front page. First is the United States Environmental Assessment Center Logo. The next element is written representation of the website‘s address and a caption of the content it is producing. Besides, establishing content criteria the second element serves to focus viewers on services offered by the Hydrogen Monoxide Research Division. The third feature is a second graphical illustration directing viewers to how they can pay for and access services from the organization. Subsequent links offered graphics supporting the information displayed in each section.
Upon examining an online Journal it was discovered that there are fewer graphics and some did not have any at all. For example, in the journal of Technology Studies there were no graphics displayed on the front pages of articles. Scientific graphs were displayed showing data retrieved from research studies. However, they were not picturesque illustrations as displayed on the Hydrogen Monoxide Research Division website and the purpose was different too. A website such as the one being evaluated offers research information concerning a specific topic, Hydrogen Monoxide studies. Journals produce expert opinions as well as results from studies (Scott, 2009).
This site does not have an individual author neither a group of authors. One Tom Way was cited as the copyright. It could be understood that the authenticity of content relies on the organizations’ credibility, United States Environmental Assessment Center (EAC). The credibility evaluation must then be focused on the organization’s research validity. The domain is a .org, which indicates that it was purchased by the organization. However, website experts caution that .org domains could be purchased by non-profit organizations, which have a motive of deceiving the public through inaccurate information dissemination (Melissa, 2013).
Credible websites are expected to have citations to articles tendered as evidence-based information. While no sources were offered on the site, which contained so much information pertaining to Hydrogen Monoxide research, at the end of each section a link to the United States Environmental Assessment Center (EAC) was given. No academic citation styles were tendered as in journal articles.
Essentially, research date information adds to both credibility of information as well as website validity. This piece of information was sadly missing from the content offered to viewers. However, a last updated citation was tendered being September 26th, 2015. This indicates that the site is updated daily by Tom Way. The writing style was simple and uncomplicated to enable understanding of grammatically correct English information by the average viewer on the topic. Supportive cartoon like graphics interspersed the information to facilitate interpretation.
