A Case Study of African American Men with Emphasis in Hypertension Treatment Therapy

Exercise is the public health prevention goal preceding the secondary or tertiary stage of receiving hypertension-related diseases among African-American men. The context of hypertension explicated a risk factor for the development of diabetes and cardiovascular disease and recently was linked to incident Chronic Kidney Diseases (AASK Student Investigators,2008). The research question is “ Does a low-sodium diet and exercise reduce hypertension in African-American men?”

According to S. Nachimuthu, et. al. (2008) studied, that “African-Americans have a higher prevalence of nephropathy with suboptimal response to angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors”. In this transparency of exercise and low-sodium diet are needed to further elucidate the public awareness of hypertension prevention treatment and therapy. The foregoing question is PICOT is the main concepts of the hypertension therapy, dietary, and cardiovascular disease reduction risk. The main concepts were selected through the top search line. Three keywords were derived from the question and were placed on the search line as typed, “hypertension”, “African-American men”, and “low-sodium”. Occasionally, I would replace the keyword from “ low-sodium” to “exercise” but the findings are that the information was poor to no information relevant to the keywords found on all databases and the search processes begun by searching through the PubMed databases and Book Database then take the articles sent to the collection file for retrieveion the files at any time. Creating a group file name first before placed to the folder of destination. On the collection folder, there are the dates, database names and the titles of the articles displayed on the folder line.

The study design is random sampling— pretest/posttest group randomization protocols. The study was held at the receptive community area at a local barber shop. According to the community health program, AM health J organization, promoted an awareness of hypertension prevention care. A team of researchers, namely one of the researcher, Victor, RG.(2008) drew a hierarchical model– Barbers offered a BP check with each haircut and encouraged an appropriate medical referral used the real stories of other customers modeling the desired behaviors. The multilevel analysis plan uses hierarchical models to assess the effect of covariates on hypertension control and secondary outcomes while accounting for clustering of observations within barbershops (Freeman, A. et. al, 2008). It has conclude  that by linking community health promotion to the health care system, this program could serve as a new model for HTN control and cardiovascular risk reduction in African American men on a nationwide scale (Ravenell, JE, et.al, 2008).

The overall validity of data is a low quality because it was conducted in two separated 10 weeks within 16 barbershops. There is no actual number of sampling given during the quantitative analysis research.  The research project was granted supported by National Institution of Health. (Bhat DG, et. al, 2008).
