Criminal justice is the way in which any state/country gives punishment to criminal activities that individuals in that country involve themselves. A crime is any act by an individual that is against the rules and requirements of the constitution of any country. In fact, a criminal activity is an offence to the state (Terrill, 2009). Satisfaction, on the other hand entails how contented the citizens of a country are about the judgments that the court system gives to perpetrators of criminal activities. The manner and integrity in which the judicial system delivers these judgments is essential. It determines how much the public will have faith in the judicial and police system in fighting against crime (Wemmers, 1996).

Many organizations have conducted researches on the level of satisfaction of the public on the way the police and judicial system are dealing with criminal offences in the world. In this paper, we analyze a report on a survey about the satisfaction of individuals on criminal justice in Canada (Michelle G. Grossman, 2011).

Null hypothesis: the null hypothesis of the survey was that the courts usually give female criminals fair sentences than male criminals.

Alternative hypothesis: the alternative hypothesis of the survey was that courts usually give equal sentences to both sexes of criminal offenders.

Using the data set in question, we can analyze and examine the length of sentences that courts give to certain categories of criminal activities, basing on the sex of a criminal.

From the data set, the first criminal is a woman who has a burglary offence and is serving a sentence of less than two years.

Respondent 6 is also a female with the same criminal offence, serving a sentence of over 5 years.

From the same data set, six men have the same criminal offence of burglary, and only one of them is serving a jail term of more than 5 years. The rest of them, keeping other variables constant, are serving jail terms of less than 5 years.

This indicates that the null hypothesis of the study is not true. Thus, we reject the null and accept the alternative hypothesis. In conclusion, we can conclude that justice on criminal activities does not depend on the sex of the perpetrator (Julian V. Roberts, 2005).
