I Suffer From Sleep Deprivation, Essay Example

On occasions I do suffer from sleep deprivation. This is often brought about by stress, being over worked  or getting exhausted.  There are certain prescribed methods for treating insomnia and these have included:

• Go to sleep only when really tired to prevent getting up in the night;
• Try relaxing by listening to music or reading a good book;
• Avoid power naps as these distract from your main sleeping time;
• Exercise in the morning or early afternoon, not at night time   (Chin, 2007)

Exercise is one of the most important aspects in getting the right sleep balance. It boosts energy levels and generally improves your overall health and wellbeing.  Hypnosis has been used to remedy emotional cases where it has proved necessary to access the subconscious mind. This treatment has helped people to reclaim sleep cycles.  Another condition is sleep apnia where a person stops breathing and is awoken with a jolt. This then prevents further sleep cycles. If the condition continues surgery is the only viable option. “Studies on sleep have shown that leadership in a time which suffers from lack of sleep is similar to driving under the influence. It is estimated that tens of thousands of car accidents occur each year because of sleepiness.“ (Anon, 2009)
