The Study of Chua’s and Hanna’s Concepts

There are myriad ideas that have been developed concerning the parenting concept. While parenting is a term that is literary used to refer to the act of being a parent, the term has an underlying meaning. Different researchers, aim to unravel the meaning and the features of parenting. They have devised conceptual explanations of the parenting concept. Still, the value of parenting and the notion of the same have been characterized by conflicting explanations across a broad spectrum of knowledge. The establishment of a proper study system that defines and explains important elemental features that set parenting is paramount in acquiring parental outcome. This research study while aiming to establish a system that compares and contrasts ideas of parenting according to Amy Chua and Hanna Rosin will seek to evaluate the effectiveness of the developed ideas on the issue of parenting.

Development

The literature regarding the concept of parenting according to the two authors is based on comparing the features of parenting in the western countries and the eastern countries. The concept advanced by Chua, who argues for eastern parenting, has effectively been implemented in achieving the parental outcome (Chua). According to her, parenting grows into fun where a parent develops parental skills. The author incorporates rigorous concepts in promoting an understanding of the parental concept. She alludes to learning a concept in music as a way of promoting an understanding of the parental notion. She perceives that allowing young children to practice instrumentals for the individual duration of each day increases their learning ability in music. She feels that the concept is valid when used in the education of children. She further maintains that the teacher is likely to be the problem where the concept is incorporated in the learning process.

Hanna Rosin argues for parenting in western countries, while maintaining a position that conflicts with Chua’s, she incorporates a concept that tends to suggest that freedom is paramount in building of character and the overall learning process. She maintains that the western child does not need much skill and practice to keep perfection concerning the character development.

The study of the arguments devised by the two authors shows differing self-esteems and the approaches that should be used by parents in treating their respective children. Chua maintains that comments that are usually made to children in her country may be repressive when used in children in the west (Chua). She advances a notion that through being critical of what is done by children in China, the parental expectation of the children’s ability increases. Hanna has a suggestion that conflicts with this concept. She has adopted a belief that tends to suggest that criticism of children should be replaced with a platform of guidance where challenges are likely to be experienced by the children (Rosin). In contrary to Chua, she is against pressurizing children with the key aim of forcing them into succeeding.

The study of the ideologies of the two authors on the parental features differs in various senses. The study of the ideology of Hanna shows that a child parented under Chua’s model is likely to be unhappy and happy under Hanna’s ideology. While the concepts are aimed at achieving a better parental mechanism, their beliefs and means of applications differs. The two concepts have equal weight with regard to the modalities of parenting. I feel that the two techniques should be integrated into the parental process as a means of increasing the parental outcome.
