Identifying Career Characteristics, Essay Example

Pages: 2

Words: 551

Essay

It appears that the social category is the most appealing in terms of identifying career characteristics because social skills allow people to interact with their coworkers, managers, and clients in a meaningful manner. Furthermore, those who are able to socialize well are more likely to encounter new learning experiences, which will add to their abilities as professionals as well. The top five jobs that are most appealing to me include becoming a registered nurse (RN), emergency medical technician (EMT), a pre-school teacher, a physical therapist, or a sports trainer. These jobs will allow me to interact with people in a manner that will improve their lives, which will be benefitted from my ability to socialize and connect with others.

Of these jobs, the three that I will select to analyze are becoming an RN, EMT, and pre-school teacher. These jobs are of interest because they are always high in demand. More RNs and EMTs will be needed as the population continues to grow. Since the older generation has a large population, there will be a great availability of jobs in the medical field because there are less people in my generation interested in these positions than there are positions available. Furthermore, it would be beneficial to become a pre-school teacher because there is always a need for educators. Even though a majority of the population is elderly, children are born every second, and it becomes more necessary to provide them with a quality education and ensure that they receive the head start that they deserve.

The highest paying job is sports trainer, provided that I am able to work with high end clients. To do so, I would need to relocate to a major city such as New York City or Los Angeles. Sports trainers in these areas have the potential to make at least $100 per hour because they work with primarily wealthy clientele. However, it would be necessary for me to refine my skills and differentiate myself from others trainers in order to make this a possibility. It would be necessary for me to incorporate knowledge of marketing skills in order to pursue this practice in a financially feasible manner. Sports trainers provide their clients with information about how to exercise and eat properly. This include making training regimens for clients, watching them to ensure that they are completing tasks correctly, and that routines are modified to increase or decrease intensity if necessary.

As mentioned previously, the two most in demand jobs are RNs and EMTs. EMTs are required to be aware of life saving emergency techniques and these are often the individuals that respond on scene when people are hurt or are having a health crisis. As a result, these individuals tend to be on the frontline and make a major difference as to whether a life can be saved. EMTs are aware of how to use the medical equipment on ambulances to preserve the lives of people that they pick up. Many EMTs are also trained to drive the ambulance in a manner that will enable them to deliver their patients to the hospital quickly. Thus, this position also requires expert driving skills in addition to the ability to understand the different paths that could be traveled around town to make sure that the patient reaches the hospital in time.
