Identifying the Learning Practices, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 284

Essay

My rationale is to identify the learning practices that will help facilitate the learning advancement for both weak and strong achievers. There is much research evidence that nowadays, even in group work, strong achievers tend to unite in groups with strong achievers, which is natural, since they are thus able to perform tasks and comprehend new materials quicker and easier. Weak achievers tend to unite with weak achievers because of their lack of self-esteem and the perceived non-acceptance by strong achievers, which results in the advancement of strong achievers, and the stagnation of weak achievers. Therefore, the educational process appears segmented, with more opportunities grasped by strong achievers, and the weak achievers’ exclusion from the opportunity to advance in studies with the help of strong students. Hence, the rationale for change is to investigate the effect of heterogeneous combination of students into groups in which strong achievers would help weak achievers thus increasing their leadership potential, and weaker students would benefit from learning to a greater extent.

The objective of my research is thus confined to identifying the individual learning peculiarities of my students in a group, and coupling those students facilitating from group work more than from individual work. The objective is to analyze the progress of both strong and weak achievers in homogeneous and heterogeneous groups so that the benefits for each group are identified under specific learning conditions. Judging from these objectives, I formulated the ultimate objective as follows: to identify the ways in which weak achievers can be stimulated in their studying process by means of cooperating with strong achievers in groups, and by working individually in case individual work is the preference and the individual learning style peculiarity of students.
