I chose this news story about New Mexico governor Susana Martinez and her stand against violent illegal criminals.
For years, illegal immigration has been a reputable issue in America’s culture wars. Regardless passage of the immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, formed to eliminate the U.S. labor marker of unregistered workers, there were approximately 11-12 million illegal immigrants living in the United States in 2006. Americans have stayed divided over how to address this problem. Mexican comprises the largest group of illegal immigrants in the United States, followed by those from El Salvador and Guatmala.
Examining whether illegal immigration into the United States has changed because the passage of IRCA is difficult for at least two reasons. One is that information on the size of the illegal population in the United States has always been hard to get. The second is that different kinds of unregistered migrants exist, each of which may be affected differently by IRCA.
For many years immigration, illegally or legally has been an issue for America. Since this story is regarding illegal immigration in New Mexico. So it would be assistive to focus on the section of Hispanic illegal immigration. Illegal immigration started in 1882 from Mexico. United States needed low cost labor for building thousands of miles railroads across the nation. It was planned that America and Mexico would be connected by railroad and thousands of workers crossed the border illegally to start working on it.
When Mexican revolution started, thousands of immigrants cross the border illegally too. In the early 40’s from 1929 to the beginning of World War II, United States started minimizing the illegal immigration by forcibly taking out illegal immigrants. On the hand, because of Great Depression jobs were lacking. Although, illegal immigration exploded because American men left for world war 2 and manpower was lacking. In 60’s, 70’s, and 80,s they tried very hard to send back illegal immigrants but it was overwhelming. “Since World War II, illegal immigration has been continuous local and international policy headache as civil rights groups fight against conservative groups over this issue” (Head, n.d.) .
Literally, illegal immigration is a debatable issue. Immigration has been protected by liberal people and it does not matter whether it is illegal or legal. They believe that every individual has fundamental natural rights and should not be ignored. They propose that America does not have the right to search people because of ethnic history or that they are illegal in this country.
They forced the argument that a person must have broken the law before they question them on their illegal status. Law enforcement should have the authority to question anyone, if they commit crime regardless of their ethnicity. There is a rise of drugs and gang associated with assassination in the border area between United States and Mexico. Several Americans got assassinated by illegal immigrants and public feel that they are not protected by federal government from these criminals the way they suppose to.
This news story is focuses on the New Mexico governor decision regarding the revoking of sanctuary that was provided to illegal immigrants from asking them about their legal status when they are arrested. This sanctuary was provided to them by former Governor Bill Richardson. This news story focuses on illegal immigration which is a practical problem that New Mexico faces. They discussed that it makes sense if police ask immigrants about their legal status when they have arrested for a crime.
Illegal immigration demands a moral response, one emphasizing charity and assistance in order to welcome such people in the communities where they are working. This viewpoint, often shared by liberal religious groups, regards illegal immigrants as economic refugees, people escaping WW III poverty and trying desperately to support their families. In this report the media is unbiased, but they spend more time covering the governor’s decision instead of illegal immigration or about the opinion of civil rights group. This story was not that much sensational but there were some hard facts that they reported regarding the crime committed by illegal aliens.
It is an unbiased article and if any unbiased person explains ping. It explained that or analyze this story then they will come up with sense that illegal immigration is a big issues that faces by southern states bordering Mexico. They will recognize that the crime committed by illegal immigrants is affecting legal immigrants more than white Americans. This article does not support or encourage prejudice, discrimination, and stereotyping. It explained that Susan Martinez is Hispanic heritage. It is also obvious from this news article that Hispanic legal immigrants are also against illegal immigration.
At the moment, illegal immigrant doesn’t need to help us with the economy. We need to give all the available jobs to American citizens and legal immigrants in this economic down turn that we are currently experiencing. Although they do not occupy in large number of jobs, illegal immigrants do drain our resources by having access to Medicaid, Medicare and welfare funds. This uses up our tax dollars we don’t have the luxury of wasting.
I would definitely encourage inclusion, and campaign against any media coverage which I felt to be discriminatory in nature. “Workers’ organizations must definitely present the interest of employees with diversity to administration and in any works council, safety committee or other workplace committee, and should improve positive action attempting to promote their inclusion in the workplace, including awareness increasing among managers and staff and any required adjustments or adaptations” ( Head, n.d). The employers’ strategies of human resource development purpose are to increase the efficiency and contribution of the employees. Diversity can increase the productivity because if employees feel respected, included and valued then they will work hard and increase the productivity. The terms, ‘equality, diversity and inclusion’ were chosen specifically to delinenate the conceptual frame of the volume. Each of these terms adds a different and unique dimension to the study of relations of power at work. While the term equality allows for a comparative reading of relations of power in the workplace, the term diversity draws attention to the multiplicity of strands of difference and the term inclusion adds a purposive and strategic dimension to the investigation of interventions to relations of power at work. These subtle differences aside, equality, diversity and inclusion are also used in interrelated ways, reflecting their interconnectedness at the level of theorization and practice.
It is not in the company’s interests to avoid exposure to promote inclusion.
