Essay

Differentiate the influence of illegitimate use of power on macro, meso, and micro levels of healthcare that serve to shape the nursing practice environment

Illegitimate use of power affect healthcare policy at many levels such as the state administrative stage, healthcare organizational phases such as Medicaid, providers of health care service as well as in one-to-one interactions with patients and providers. It becomes prevalent when clients have to be hospitalized or visit health care units for procedures. A brief reflection on the Clinton healthcare reform of 1992, which died the slow, but sudden death is a classic example of how illegitimate power could paralyze health care policy at the macro level. A similar reaction was received when the affordable care act was first introduced through the Obama administration. Experts refer to this action as exerting epistemic power ( Shiffman, 2014)

Republicans established strategies to kill the 1992 Clinton health reform policy because too many minorities would have benefited from accessible healthcare in the country. Quality maternity care was the privilege of elite women and was to remain that way. Eventually, Democrats began to undermine the policy contending that there was no healthcare crisis in America, but health insurance. This made no sense, but people suffered for health care accessibility until passage of the Affordable care act,due to illegitimate use of power in health care policy delivery(Abood, 2015). At the messo level Medicaid organization in certain statistik away properties from patients who required long term care to pay health care bills. At the micro level hospitals using policy protocols turned away undocumented immigrants who had no insurance coverage. Thanks to the affordable care act for regulating much of the illegitimate use of power affecting healthcare policy at every level of the playing field.
