Immigrant and Identity, Essay Example

Pages: 2

Words: 665

Essay

There are so many immigrants in the United States of America coming from different parts of the world. Each of these people have different social, economical and educational backgrounds  which they bring to the USA.  Many of the immigrants bring different languages and cultural experiences.  As an immigrant my experiences were mixed, having both good and bad events.

Having been in the United States for 3 years I have appreciated the diversity of the country and the ability to develop my business skills.  A particular factor is the level of advanced education in the country and the ability to select the right type of educational path to further my career in business.  The multiple ethnicity within the country has helped in developing new friendships and sharing knowledge from different cultural perspectives around the globe.  Moving to a new country helps build your confidence and self-reliance strengthening both character of spirit and the resolve to achieve a better way of life. In summary I met and worked with many good and kind people from different parts of the world. I was able to appreciate that there are both good and bad people from different parts of the world.  One of my challenges being that Iived alone for the last three years and this strengthened my resolve in becoming a hard working student.  Despite my efforts I have still not fully acclimatised and adapted into the conventional norms of US life.  In this context things were a little more difficult than I expected.

Although I appreciate the new freedoms of America I still hold the value of my cultural roots.  Whilst democracy meets my individual needs, nevertheless I recognise that it is not suitable for all societies and the USA cannot always expect one model fits all. Consider .. ” It is not just American-style political democracy we are seeking to export today, but multicultural democracy. In our emerging multi-cultural society, U.S. policy makers have come to believe that “diversity” is the fundamental historical fact about America, and therefore the desired condition of all other societies as well. These policy makers’ favored solution to ethnic and separatist conflict in foreign countries is an American-style pluralism for which those countries are wholly unsuited.” (Auster)

Looking towards the future I hope to become a successful business person and develop my entrepreneurial skills. I hope to achieve this by advancing my educational targets and improving my  practical business skills in the workplace.  I believe that I have integrated well into American Society and the diverse cultural background has assisted in giving me the necessary confidence to succeed.  I recognize the importance of globalization and the important role that America has on shaping the world democracies.  The new President Obama is an added inspiration to all immigrants in the USA, from relative humble beginnings he has developed into one of the most influential Presidents of modern times.  ” Among my students was the man who’s going to swear Obama in as the 44th President of the United States — John Roberts, the Chief Justice — very, very smart; but I think that Barack Obama is on the whole at least as impressive, probably more so because of the breadth of qualities that his mind displays, and I suppose it’s also a kind of emotional intelligence as well as analytical intelligence ” (AK)

So despite the current downturns in the economy and the recession we have every reason to feel confident and proud of our great nation.  The nation is made up from a strong diverse cultural ethnic backgrounds that has forged one of the greatest nations on Earth.  This is a proud accomplishment and a belief in triumph that is carried within us all.  I am proud to be a part of this great nation and eagerly look forward to the challenges ahead with a spirit of optimism and confidence to succeed.
