In my own view, terrorism has had a great impact on prisons and prison administrators due to the responsive changes that are prevalent in institutional management.Prison administrators have improved the management of prevalent communication and support networks that surround terrorists. I also think that Jess Maghan’s recommendation that required the interaction of all prison stakeholders towards gathering intelligent information from inmates derives its origin from terrorism threats. This is because incarceration offers prisoners with an opportunity to interact with their loved ones from the outside world through visits. The visiting system in prisons also encompasses“underground railroad systems” and “safe houses” that encircle terrorists. The contacts have been identified to provide escape plans and other plans of inflicting injury on prison personnel. In my opinion, effective monitoring of the security systems emanates from the existent fear that poor monitoring of terrorists can lead to adverse consequences.
I also regard the continuous sourcing of information from the conversations that occur between terrorists and their friends; both inmates and visiting colleagues as a way of responding to terrorist threats. It is evident that terrorism has also influenced the selection of Muslim clergy that are responsible for ministering to inmates in prison facilities. Foreign inmates have also been identified to radicalize home inmates by politicizing Islam. As a way to curb radicalization incidences, prison administrators have adopted new strategies to govern the selection of Muslim clergy that are responsible for ministering to the inmates.Intensive screening and supervision has also been noted to impede the spread of “Prison Islam”.The review of the BOP system to include more translators that monitor verbal communications and mails between incarcerated terrorists and visiting individuals also proves the impact of terrorism on prison administration.
In my own opinion, terrorists should be incarcerated in two or three prison facilities to avert their adverse impact on other inmates and prison personnel. It is appropriate to use selected camps that guarantee maximum security especially on emergency exit areas that are majorly exploited by terrorists while designing escape plans. Furthermore, concentration of terrorists in the few selected prisons would curb proselytizing and radicalization of other inmates. My opinion is based on the argument that the selected prisons contain expert prison personnel that can handle terrorist inmates hence suffice to be optimal choices for incarcerating terrorists.
The U.S. and Internet Crimes
In my view, the signing of the 1998 Identity Theft Actindicated the beginning of the war against internet crimes concerning identity theft.Furthermore, many other states signed laws defining identity theft including the associated punitive measures. Such states include Arizona, Connecticut and New York. The U.S. began handling cases involving internet crimes long before it developed relevant statutes. In my opinion, this indicates that the rapid computer development increased computer access thus provided avenues for hackers to commit internet crimes. It is evident that the U.S. witnessed a rapid increase in computer crimes in the 1960s and 1970s due to the advent of computer technology; that exhibited rapid development. Traditional tools were used to prosecute criminals prior to the development of statutes governing computer crimes. In the 1960s, Robert F. Hancock was arrested for theft of computer programs.
To this date, I think that the US leads in internet crimes because the number of individuals that use computers to perform daily activities is higher than that of any other country in the world. In my opinion, I think that the US leads in this matter of internet crimes because majority of its population are subjected to computer use to perform their daily activities. The government is also to some extend not putting enough and strict security measures, penalties and regulations to curb internet crimes in the region as per the specifications of identity theft act.
