Transport and logistics management has a considerable effect on the supply chain as it affects supply chain management. Owing to the nature and importance of TLM, it affects numerous area of business and the process of meeting market demand. TLM considerably affects transportation within the supply chain. TLM is geared on streamlining the transportation process, taking into consideration the aspect of time and place during the execution of processes. It recues the lead time throughout the transport process, which in-turn affects the lead-time throughout the logistics chain (Dartez, 2012). This will reduce the amount of time taken to meet customer demand, making the whole process more economical.

TLM enhances the aspect of efficient warehousing, relative to rate at which the company makes sales. By ensuring the most efficient warehouse management techniques are employed, companies have to employ TLM to affect the time and place relationship that exists between their clients and their warehouses (Brewer, Button, & Hensher, 2008). This also affects inventory control as it is directly related to transportation and warehousing.

Since TLM considerably affects the transportation aspects of the logistics chain, it has a direct impact on production planning. Production has to be synchronized in a way that it ensure optimal movement of the product into storage and sales (Dartez, 2012). The time between storage and sales has to be mitigated to ensure optimal product quality when it reaches the market and minimal costs associated with storage. This ensures adequate market coverage and optimal profitability relative to the economic and business environment.

The Economy and Challenges Associated with TLM

The economy heavily relies on transport and logistics to keep moving and functioning. It plays a central role in ensuring transportation and exportation of goods remain at desired levels. The economy plays an important role in determining the kind of challenges that TLM faces. The effect may be beneficial or detrimental, depending on the behavior of the different components of the economy. As economies grow, the challenges that TLM faces increases, as do the opportunities.
