Public health is the concept of nations offering support to communities that protects them from contracting communicable disease especially those listed as reported as well as providing measures that would keep children and high risk adults safe from harm/danger. Harm can occur through disasters manmade and natural. It can also mean violence in the community such as domestic abuse. It is very important that there are public health agencies catering to these needs globally and nationally (Stanhope & Lancaster, 2009).

For example, public health at a national level responds to the nation’s need for education, information dissemination, surveillance and resources when natural disasters such as hurricanes, earthquakes or tornadoes strike. Always nations can depend on their public health resources to monitor these events. In terrorists attacks public health combine technical resources in transporting casualties and keeping communities safe and calm. Therefore, both globally and nationally public health serves the noble role of ensuring public safety from physical emotional and social dangers (Patel, Rushefsky & McFarlane, 2005).

Indonesia

Indonesia is a sovereign stated situated in Southeast Asia. Its public health practices while compatible with world standards are still unique to the social environment and infrastructure. According to World Health Organization report in mid 1990s Indonesia’s public health system needs improvement since HIV/AIDs are still significant public health programs which have been under-developed to provide optimum access for high risk populations. In 2003 Indonesia had the third highest HIV/AIDS rates among Southeastern nations. Therefore, public health intervention is very important to this region (Indonesia country Profile, 2004).
