Incidence & Prevalence, Essay Example

Words: 319

Essay

Based on the article that I read, there is an incidence and prevalence statistic that stood out to me. For one, men with an intellectual disabilitywere more likely to suffer from myocardial infarction and cerebrovascular problemsthan women over the age of 50; women in their 50s have a one in twelve chance of completely dodging the disease. Out of that group, one in three women will still get the disease despite being in their 50s or going on late 50s; it can be said that neither women nor men are completely immune to the disease. What I feel is important about the prevalence and incidence of the statistics is that it is the result of every particular group of people that were tested, it did not just concentrate on just men or women in their 50s; the statistics got men in their 30s women in their late 20s and both groups in their late 40s. Another key aspect about the importance is that those who were tested fell into the category of those with an intellectual disability that have the myocardial infarction and cerebrovascular problems and those that do not. Does the statistics differ region to region, group to group; the answer is no. There are those that live in different regions of the world that suffer with myocardial infarction and cerebrovascular problems that suffer from an intellectual disability as well, those people have trouble doing things from finding a job to tying their shoes; it is completely evident that those people need a special kind of assistance in order to do things. Ironically, it would not seem likely for people in other countries to get this disease, but the statistics show that they can and have.
