Incident of Collective Behavior, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 371

Essay

The changing definitions of marriage to include same sex marriages or gay marriages have attracted both controversy and a degree of collective behavior.  The gay lobby group view this as equality of rights under the law and one that should not be influenced by prejudice, stereotyping or religious intolerance.  This issue has been particularly intense in the US State of California over the last 7 months but has been simmering for several years.  Religious bodies have stipulated that ‘gay marriages’ have far reaching consequences particularly where the adoption and raising of children is concerned.

The changes in the recent laws in favour of gay marriages have been precipitated by an increase in the lobbying of the gay community and the cry for equal rights to the heterosexual community.  It is a question of equality and consideration of their human rights.  In addition the number of children being raised in such relationships has largely been successful.  The legal provisions are in favour of gay marriages but this will continue to provide obstacles for the Christian Churches.

Urbanization In Mumbai India

The world is in a period of unprecedented growth and regional change. The population of the world has doubled in the last 50 years with an estimated world population of 6.6 billion people.  This is mainly due to longevity in age, lower mortality rates on diseases and improved medical conditions. Most of the growth, in terms of young people, is happening in the developing world. This in turn is increasing the volume of urban living.

Mumbai is a City on the West Coast of India. Mumbai in the Indian state of Maharashtra has a population of 12 million people sprawling out over a coastline area of 720 kilometres,  Most of the people live within commuting distance of the City, attracted by the lucrative lifestyle and jobs. Nevertheless this has also created a large amount of slum dwellers and homeless people that do not have access to proper sanitation facilities.  This has resulted in the sea and surrounding area being used as a natural toilet and as such Mumbai is now suffering from a major pollution problem. The Mangrove species has been reduced from 14 to 2 species and much of the natural habitat is being destroyed.
