Origin of theatre in India

Theatre is believed to be an important practice of aesthetic in Asia as well as India. The contemporary Indian discourse and play texts indicate an existence of theatre in India dating back from civilization era. Its history can be traced to 5000 years ago back. The first book that highlighted India drama, the Natya Shahtra, is believed to have been written approximately 2000 BC. Theatre has developed to achieve a variety of forms, that have prevailed to-date and comprise of the Folk Theatre, Puppetry, Ramlila, modern theatre together with many more.

Sanskrit Theatre

India is associated with long-standing background of Sanskrit theatre.  Sanskrit drama involves an assortment of drama types that comprise of dialogue, imitation, gesticulation, music as well as dialogue. The accurate foundation of Sanskrit theatre is unclear but it is postulated to be in the region of the 1st century of the Vedic era.

Kalidasa

Kalidasa is a renowned author of Indian culture Classical Sanskrit. He is perceived as the most important dramatist as well as a poet who ever addressed the Sanskrit language in India. His history is traceable back during the 4th Century AD. Some of the famous works done by Kalidasa include “The Recognition of   Shankutala,” “Urvashi Won by Valour,” “Dynasty of Raghu,” Birth of the War God,” along with “Cloud Messenger.” His poetry together with plays focuses on philosophy along with Hindu Puranas.
