Influence on Family Life, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 273

Essay

There has been a situation with someone I know who does not take his good health seriously. Instead, he takes it for granted by the way he abuses it by smoking and drinking too much alcohol. He also has a terrible cough that he will not go to the doctor and get checked out, because he says he does not trust doctors and hospitals. He also says that doctors and hospitals just rip people off who don’t have insurance and he does not have any insurance.

I know he neglects his health and does not trust doctors and hospitals because his parents and the rest of his family are the same way. They have a family behavioral concept about health care that is negative and detrimental. Also, they are not in the upper social class of society and they feel that people who are in the upper class of society look down on them.

So, this is an example of how social class has a major impact on family behavioral patterns. They all learn the same negative lessons from each other and pass them down to their children, who will likely pass it down to their children, and so forth. It seems that social class is either a blessing or a curse, but it does not have to be that way for people in lower social classes. For example, now the Affordable Healthcare Act makes it possible for everyone to have health insurance, so there is no reason or excuse any more for people to say they do not seek health care because they have no insurance. Behavioral patterns are learned.
