Information Seeking: Research Analysis and Discussion, Essay Example

Pages: 2

Words: 443

Essay

The desire to “know” is an innate matter among human individuals especially at their stage of learning development. It could not be denied that this process of finding more information about a certain matter insists on the considerable desire of one to incur more understanding. Notably, it is an important part of maturity; a specific condition that stirs up development that is needed by the brain. There are instances however that some individuals tend to lose track of this desire, thus insisting on the need to motivate them to embrace such process. How could this be given attention to? There are two researches to be given attention to in this discussion.

Jennifer Branch’s research on Instructional Intervention specifically defines an insight that the assistance that educators give towards their students directs the learners to desire to gain more knowledge. In this research, she indicates that with the motivation of the educators, the students would be empowered to embrace the need to consider researching and finding more dependable sources of knowledge that they could use for educational evaluation. The study of Angela Weiler on Information Seeking Behaviour in Generation Y Students on the other hand tries to identify the common issues that are related to the lost of interest that some students at present experience when it comes to evaluating their need to “know more”. Notably, she mentions that somehow, students are encouraged to research further when they are given the motivation to utilize their critical thinking in a personal course. Educators may at some point help through motivation, but the actual act of responding to the need to learn should come from the direct efforts of the students. In this case, it has been deemed important that educators be given the proper knowledge on how to handle the challenge of motivating the students to desire to know more and to gauge their capabilities to gain more information about the subjects and lessons they are presented with in school in response to their personal desire of advancing their knowledge further.
