Research Paper

The case is about two mobile games company based in the United States and United Kingdom filing a lawsuit against a video game company, Maysalward, located in Jordan. The two companies have accused Maysalward and its founder for fraud and deception of robbing them their rights to a mobile game they produced. The Jordanian based video game developer was the distributor of the mobile game in the Middle East at the time the game was developed. Instead of releasing the proceeds to the rightful owners, the company deprived Tigris and DreamStone their intellectual property and reputation in development and distribution of the mobile game “GHUL: 1001 Arabian Nights”. Moreover, the company has been accused of stealing earned money, misappropriating GHUL property, and holding GHUL hostage in its headquarters. Maysalward published the game between October 2013 and January 2014. Because of this situation, Tigris gaming company has been prevented from going on with the creation of its forthcoming GHUL movie. Therefore, Maysalward is being accused of intellectual property by holding the money belonging to the other to companies involved in this lawsuit.

In this case, these two parties involved were concerned about the intellectual property concerns that include patent and trademark laws, in addition to stealing the proceeds and the rights of another company’s property (Seville 87). Patent laws deal with the rights of a person or a business to produce a product it invented for a particular length of time. Therefore, Maysalward video game developer is on the wrong for selling other companies’ mobile game GHUL and preventing or holding hostage their proceeds (Dutfield, Graham, and Suthersanen 39). Moreover, it has also violated the law of trademarks by selling other people’s property and keeping money for itself. Therefore, it can be said that Maysalward has stolen the rights and property of Tigris and DreamStone. This act is punishable by the law. Therefore, most probable Maysalward will be punished for violation of these laws.

There are many possible impacts in this case. If Maysalward Company is found guilty in the courts of law, the judgments that can be passed to punish this company are many. For example, the business can be closed by the courts of law (Intellectual property law 66). It is a very wrong practice to take the hard-earned proceeds of another person. This is against the law and can be punished by fining the company or the business (Intellectual property law 67). The fine or compensation that can be applied in the case of intellectual property is very huge. Moreover, the business can be banned for several years for stealing the intellectual property of another business.

This article was of very great interest to because it deals with a very good example of a case involving intellectual property where one company denies another company the money gained from the property of the later. The case describes in details the way Maysalward has stolen the property of the other two companies, which had trusted it to distribute the mobile game in the Middle East. Moreover, the article brings out several violations of the law that the Maysalward has committed against Tigris and DreamStone and hence proves to be a perfect article and case of intellectual property law. In addition, the article was of interest because it is dealing with companies as the parties in the lawsuits.
