Intergovernmental Revenue Systems, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 292

Essay

Countries all over embark on the efforts to improve government services. Many are the times I could wonder how the government would still be able to deliver their services efficiently even with the devolving terms of expenditure. The value in terms of cash needed on government responsibilities increases with the unpredictable economic conditions.

In this assignment, reading the history did not mean a lot, but the part I understood most, and it happens to be the most essential part is the way the government obtains its revenue. The government goes miles to obligate every citizen, despite the career, in generating government revenue. It is impressing, and noteworthy that those who own much wealth in forms of vehicles, land, urban houses, and commodities among other stuff have to pay tax for each property. The sources of government revenue include:

  • Commodity taxes
  • Income taxes
  • Property taxes
  • Land revenue
  • Registration tax
  • Urban housing land tax
  • Non-tax receipts
  • Foreign grants
  • Supplement by ceases
  • Vehicle taxes
  • Miscellaneous fee and charges, and
  • Miscellaneous taxes and revenues

Citizens may feel the pressure as the government “attacks” them from every corner, in terms of paying tax. In fact, various controversies and criticisms regarding tax arise, with people proposing on various approaches to tax reforms. It is right to cry out upon feeling oppressed, however, in the greater view of things; the government has no choice but to find all ways and means of obtaining revenue. Personally, in the military field, I contribute to the revenue through income tax. Failure to do so would mean the government cannot offer its services efficiently, and neither can it contain the needs of its people. It would mark a way forward to borrowing or asking for help from other superior countries. Thus, I conclude that it is the responsibility of the citizens to pay tax to be independent.
