Re: South Africa Marketing Opportunity

Double S Cedar homes makes  affordable prefabricated housing for domestic consumption within North America and to our export market abroad.  We are located in Surrey BC near the Cities of Vancouver and Seattle on the North American West Coast.  Founded in 1979 we have successfully delivered several thousand home across the USA and Canada and exported to China, France, Germany, Japan, UK, Taiwan and Spain.  There remains a high demand for our quality Post and Beam homes, made from the finest cedar wood.

We have now been approached with a large order from South Africa.  The firm is Government sponsored and is looking to improve the quality of affordable housing in the South African Townships.  Given the poor state of many housing developments in the rural areas of South Africa this may be a tremendous opportunity to break into the South African Market place.  Although the country has experienced a turbulent past with apartheid, the country now has a relatively stable political system with free elections. There are 16 political Parties in South Africa with the African National Congress (ANC) being the largest. The country is showcasing the World Cup (Soccer) in 2010 with potential to advertise our Company to an international audience as the event is televised world-wide.

The ANCE has been heavily involved in supporting the economy and is keen to improve the standard of housing in the townships and rural areas.  Examples of recent spending in Education and Health care illustrates:

  • From 1992 to 1996, the proportion of public spending devoted to primary healthcare increased from 11% to 21%. Full immunisation coverage at the age of one year was increased from 63% in 1998 to 72% in 2002. Routine coverage for the oral polio vaccine grew from 74% in 1998 to 89% in 2003.
  • Expenditure on education, the largest single budgetary item in South Africa, increased from R43-billion in 1999 to R70-billion in 2003.

They now wish to support private industry in the Housing sector.

The courts of South Africa are the civil and criminal courts responsible for the administration of justice in South Africa. They apply the law of South Africa and are established under the Constitution of South Africa or under Acts of the Parliament of South Africa. The legal system was radically overhauled in the 1990’s and is now considered relatively effective and impartial. In my opinion South Africa is worthy of further investigation as a potential export market candidate for our Company.
