International Award to Cargill Suppressed by Nib, Essay Example

Essay

The article “International award to Cargill suppressed by NIB” discusses the leak of an award announcement from the ISSA Best Practices Award committee for a Balance Score Card designed by Mr. Cargill and submitted to the ISSA Best Practices Award committee for consideration. The controversy revolves around the fact that the award was never announced, though it would have been grand recognition for the company, National Insurance, and the Bahamas, and the discovery that funding for the trip to the award ceremony was denied by the company board leaving Mr. Cargill unable to cover the cost of travelling to the conference and accepting the award in person. Also, Algernon Cargill was dismissed from his position as Director and Chief Executive Officer of NIB. The implications of this article for Mr. Cargill are good, in that it showcases his accomplishment and implies unfair treatment toward him by NIB. For the company, the implications are not good, since it appears the board overlooked an opportunity for global recognition that would have benefited not only them, but the country as well.

The long-term economic contributions solar use can have to the tourism industry are great, and have cut costs and increased revenue in countries that rely on tourism for a large portion of income. Jamaica has had economic success introducing solar energy use and this could be duplicated in the Bahamas. The use of solar powered cars and sailboats by tourists and companies providing tours of the island and surrounding waters would lessen the amount of fuel needed to be imported. In addition to land and water vehicles, solar power could be used for residential, hotel, and hospital energy use to power water heaters and air conditioning units.
