Intrapersonal Goal Review and Reflection

When I first entered this class, I noticed that a major intrapersonal communication I had was the ability to read aloud clearly. This was problematic because I occasionally enjoy reading newspapers and books to others. My words were not fluid and it was obvious that I was reading rather than speaking naturally. The textbook recommended I practice reading until my words started sounding natural (VV&S, 2010).

I believe that I have improved this intrapersonal communication skill and that it will help with my interpersonal communication as well. When I read aloud, it is less obvious that I am looking at the words as I speak. I plan to continue practicing this skill after this class ends because it is a valuable life tool. I believe that listening to others read will help me further develop this communication skill as well.

Interpersonal Goal Review and Reflection

When I started Speech277, I noted that the interpersonal communication skill I needed to work on most is my ability to speak clearly and confidently during verbal conversation. As the semester continued, I recognized that it would be worthwhile for me to apply these skills to virtual communication as well. I believe that my ability to communicate face-to-face, through e-mail, and text messages have increased substantially. The textbook initially recommended that I rehearse these modes of communication before coming face-to-face with a person and to review my virtual messages closely before I send them (VV&S, 2010).

I believe that my communication skills have improved because I now recognize when I make verbal errors. When this occurs, I will attempt to repeat my words flawlessly and concisely so they can be understood by my listener. I hope that if I continue to do this, my mistakes will continuously diminish.
