Essay

A quantitative study to investigate the preparedness of nurses in caring for women who are exposed to violence from their intimate partners

The research problem involved investigation of the extent of impact on the health of women. The research question was “is there a need for preparedness among primary health care nurses for identification of victims and provide the needed interventions?”

The framework of the study is explicitly expressed as the preparedness of the nurses on care delivery to take care of the women attending the primary health care as a result of violence from their intimate partners (Montero Et al., 2011).

Since the nurses were identified to be six times highly likely to enquire on issues of violence from their intimate partners on condition of sufficient preparation, it was ptudent that several theories be put to test. Out of all theories selected, the only statistically significant identified was the age-adjusted model. The adjustments in age brought about participants being categorized in three groups with the eldest being > 60 years.

The study was administered through a questionnaire to evaluate the preparedness of the nurses in dealing with the women who fall victim to violence from their intimate partners and how to identify them and offer them interventions. The preparation of the questionnaire was based on the systematic literature review in addition to the experience and the knowledge of the author in the area of study (Montero Et al., 2011).

The sampling method entailed a random sample of 40 PHCC from the total of 174 PHCC who were available in the rural regions in the Stockholm County. The study was not generalizable because there is limited knowledge on the topic of  violence from their intimate partners.
