This self-assessment provided an opportunity to examine the different areas to determine healthiness and whether or not personal and professional goals might be achieved under these conditions. This reflects a need to evaluate the different conditions that impact individuals and that demonstrate a need to determine the likely areas where healthiness is based upon mood and other factors that impact my overall health. This is an important learning opportunity because it conveys my ability to contain my emotions and to recognize how my motivation and mood have an impact on my overall wellbeing. This is important because it sheds light on how I approach different situations and seek out opportunities based on my emotions and psyche. I believe that it is important to recognize that my health and general mood sometimes hold me back and do not allow me to experience the highest possible level of personal satisfaction. This is somewhat frustrating and reflects a need to further explore other options in order to achieve a greater level of motivation with my career path.
Interventions to improve health status
My own health status must be explored in greater detail in order to emphasize the importance of the tools and resources that will impact how I feel in my daily life. This is of critical importance because it reflects my need to evaluate the conditions under which I am able to contribute to the nursing profession and to make difference in the lives of my patients, one step at a time. This is important in evaluating the conditions under which I conduct my life and to determine where I possess weaknesses that impact my own health. I must learn how to improve my health and optimize the conditions under which I am able to work as a nurse with a positive approach and attitude on a consistent basis. Health status is a critical factor in productivity for nurses; therefore, it must be addressed in the context of mood, disease, and other factors (Chiou, Chiang, Huang, Wu, & Chien, 2013).
It is important to identify the resources that are required to improve mood and to recognize how to best approach healthcare practice with a positive approach that will impact patient outcomes in a positive manner. Nurses must maintain a high degree of responsibility for their patients and must be able to focus on different activities in order to preserve health outcomes and professional objectives. When nurses are dissatisfied or otherwise unhappy with their professional careers, this is likely to impact patient care quality and the lives of those who are served; therefore, these issues must be addressed more closely and demonstrate a need for further analysis and consideration in order to effectively approach these issues without difficulty (McHugh, Kutney-Lee, Cimiotti, Sloane, & Aiken, 2011). As a professional nurse, I must take whatever steps are necessary to prevent a potential decline in patient care quality that may result from poor nursing performance that is related to personal health. I believe that it is necessary to recognize when my own quality of life is limited by one or more factors and to be cognizant of the actions that I must take to prevent further complications that not only impact my own health but also that of my patients. As a result, I must be able to recognize when I must seek support and guidance regarding my health in order to preserve my own wellbeing to be able to make a valid contribution to the lives of my patients.
Implications for clinical practice
A strong commitment to health and wellbeing requires my full support and dedication on a continuous basis. I believe that based upon my own decision-making regarding my health also has an impact on my commitment to clinical practice, as this reflects a need to evaluate how to consider personal health and what it signifies for my patients. Leddy’s model represents a need to evaluate health factors closely and to take any steps that are necessary to improve personal health through the efforts that are made (Hood, 2013). This theory provides further evidence of the need to evaluate patients and to be proactive in working towards the development of health improvements through the actions that are taken (Hood, 2013). The focus must be on individuals and what is necessary to improve health over time.
In order to effectively promote clinical practice, my focus must be on my patients above all else. Therefore, I must possess a level of clarity and focus that will have a positive impact on my wellbeing and provide further evidence of my commitment to my patients. When this occurs, it is likely that my mood and focus will be in the appropriate place and will demonstrate my ability to work towards a set of positive goals and expectations. In general, my ability to engage in health promotion activities will be effective in supporting a framework to promote success and to achieve the necessary outcomes in my treatment of patients (Linsley, 2011). In a clinical capacity, I must be consistently focused and must support an understanding of the dynamics of each patient care situation in order to achieve the intended outcomes.
It is important to develop a strategic approach that is grounded in my ability to be proactive and to support my own health through the actions that I take throughout my own life (Linsley, 2011). These actions will translate into positive outcomes and expectations for patients and will enable me to conduct myself in a professional manner that will have a positive and lasting impact on my activities. Health promotion is a constant reminder of the need to focus on decision-making that will impact health in a positive manner and to determine what steps are required to ensure that I am able to contribute to patient care and clinical practice at the highest possible level.
