A5. Information technology is a collection of processes and applications that create new methods to solve problems, perform tasks, and manage communication. The areas where it has especially affected the economy are productivity, employment, and working environments.

Assignment 2: You are starting a small business, determine what computer equipment you need, price the equipment and justify the purchase

Ans. I am starting a small financial services and brokerage firm. I will need desktops, notebook computers, tablet computers, and business servers. Desktop and notebook computers will cost under $1,000 each where as tablet computers such as an IPad will cost around $500. I will also need a business server such as a Bloomberg Terminal that will cost me around $3,000 in monthly fees or about $36,000 per year.

Desktop computer will be needed for office use and are more efficient due to larger monitors and more ergonomic keyboards. Notebook computer is mainly intended for commute work and while serving senior customers at their residences. Tablet computer is a more portable solution than notebook computer for assessing news and information during commute work when work will not involve software use with heavy data input such as Microsoft Office suite. As a business that involves provision of financial and investment services, Bloomberg Terminal is an essential need and the worldwide standard for financial information in different investment categories such as equities, bonds, and derivatives.
