Introducing Myself to the Class, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 366

Essay

Hi, my name is Jasmine and I was born in Las Vegas, Nevada. Even though my parents were born in Michigan, they moved to Las Vegas to pursue their creative talents as interior designers. I have spent my entire life in Las Vegas probably because I am the faithful kind. I am now a second-year student at College of Southern Nevada and the college experience has exceeded all of my expectations. The greatest surprise has been the fact that most of the education in college doesn’t take place in the classroom but outside the classroom where we are constantly being exposed to different ideas and perspectives. These interactions have also helped me better understand myself as well as become better aware of my own biases and stereotypes.

I am pursuing an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice and not surprisingly, I enjoy the readings of Nancy Grace and Cornel West. I have always wanted to pursue a career that will help me make a difference in the society and one of my career ambitions is to give voice to some of the most vulnerable members of the society. This is why my professional goal is to become a legislator. I want to work to protect the rights of the weak and fight against the powerful elements of the society who sacrifice the overall interests of the society for personal gains. My career ambitions have also been inspired by my strong Christian faith and I am involved with Christian sorority called Blume in which we guide young girls to seek inspiration from Christianity in all walks of their lives and realize their true potential. We also encourage young women to be more involved with the church and the community so that they turn out to be selfless members of the society.

I also enjoy and write poetry because the art of using words in a creative manner to express profound ideas has always fascinated me. Just as a picture is worth thousand words, a beauty poetry is also worth thousand ideas depending upon how the reader interprets it. In the end, I hope I will leave as a better person than who I was when I started my college career.
