Introduction

Intensity, one amongst the properties of color, represents the brightness. This specific parameter is constantly under prejudiced with numerous factors. Through the use of spectrophotometer or Calorimeter, this experiment makes an effort in exploring the factors influencing the color intensity. By developing an equation, relating to the amount of transmitted light through concentration, this experiment reports the findings in a well-structured, clear and concise manner. Use of the following equation, , enabled in understanding the significance of transmittance in measurement of color intensity. Here, Transmittance (T), defined as the ratio of the intensity of light transmitted by the sample (I) to that of light incident on the sample (I₀).

Through the key principle of materials absorbing and emitting energy, various Spectrophotometric techniques function over different and constrained frequency ranges, relying on the processes and magnitude of energy changes. Application of Beer Lambert Law, with log (I0/I)= €cl in the Spectrophotometric technique, allowed in determining the influence of different factors like concentration (c), path length (l) and extinction co-efficient (€) in measuring absorbance (log I0/I), and thus the color intensity.

Within the current experiment, the Calorimetric or Spectrophotometric device was utilized to measure the intensity of the light transmitted through the solution. Utilization of these techniques characterized with the principle of transmitted light in proportional to measured voltage, enabled in assessing the significance of individual parameters for color intensity. However, sufficient degree of care was taken in calibrating the calorimeter at 0% and 100% transmittance, prior to the estimation of appropriate conversion equation.
