One Trip Shopping List

This is one of the smartest and most useful of the iPhone  applications to be developed.  One Trip has a simple and ingenious interface allowing you to both organize and build a shopping list. It’s simple. An extremely simple and easy to use interface.  The software splits out the shopping list into useful categories and facilitates customization of same.

iPhone Chat

One drawback with the Iphone is that currently a version of Chat is not built in.  Instead the iPhone web application lets you log into AIM.  Here you can view your contacts, deal with tabbed chats etc.  This is a useful alternative until a fully fledged version of iChat becomes available.

Zoho

Essentially an Office suite of applications for the iPhone.  iPhone-capable versions of Zoho Writer, Zoho Sheet, and Zoho Show. The iPhone can display PDFs, Word docs, and Excel.

Gas Aps

This handy piece of software helps you to find the nearest and cheapest gas station by giving the iPhone Gas.app your zip code. It provides a quick  overview of the offerings, but you can also click the station to get a Google Map view. Hence provides you with a quick visual reference map to the service station.

iActu

iActu provides a very good  newsstand interface for popular news outlets like the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and more. One of the great features of this application is the browser which makes viewing the headlines a quick and easy task.

Free iPhone Applications

There are literally hundreds of “free” applications for download to the I Phone.  These include anything from games applications, map readers, cookbooks,  wine lists etc.  The usual problems apply with “open source” software, the I Phone being no different.  Potential bugs or security issues with the software, potential open access via the wireless network to your data on the phone, potential loss or lack of support for the programs.  These are readily understood by most people and that is the reason they are free.

The latest version of IM Lite (Instant Messaging software) is another brilliant application. IM+ Lite features the same list of popular messaging services as full version has, except Skype and Facebook.  It supports Twitter  has a  built-in browser, speech recognition (as in-app purchase) and Emoji.  Similar to the full version IM+ Lite allows its users to send and receive photos, videos (3Gs only), dictate and send voice messages as MP3 files which can be played anywhere.
