Iron Empires, Iron Fists, Iron Domes by Thomas Friedman, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 332

Essay

The article basically talks about the most common types of governance that existed in the stretch of the different Arab countries. Pointing out the lane of origin from their government’s political culture through carefully detailing the history, Friedman was able to show how the Ottoman empire and its application of the Iron fist was able to contain the need of the people for governance. Nevertheless, the entrant of the foreign invaders in the said countries changed the situation not only of the government but that of the life of the people. Although the beginning of the era was rather essentially defined as relative to the support of the people’s living welfare, the years that came after the division of the different colonies of the British rule in the said region became a source of conflict and complication among peoples.

The birth of dictatorship then began to flourish. At this point, it could be analyzed that Friedman was able to get the gist of the Arab history as he drew the developing course of governance that the country currently knows. What makes such distinctive detailing important is that of the capability of Friedman to specifically set a comparison that would basically get the attention of the readers while also giving them a viable ground for understanding the condition of governance in the Arab countries then and now. Such comparison allows the readers to make a distinctive assumption on which type of political guidance was able to impose success and development in the country and how the Arab countries turned out to be at present. Overall, the writing of Friedman could be considered powerful and direct in showing how the supposed original process of governance in the Arab countries was set right to provide development to the nations and how seemingly the foreign culture altered such system and brought about a sense of destruction to the current system of governance within the said nations.
