Is There a Right to Health or Health Care? Essay Example

In my opinion I believe that everyone has a right to health care and the state ought to ensure that right is executed. In many countries health care is a social service just as education. If every child has the right to basic education then it is logical to expect that everyone has a right to health care also from a moral and ethical premise. According to Beauchamp, Walters, Kahn, and Mastroianni (2008) there is need for access to health care in America since numerous health disparities exist among the population. This blocks access of many American citizens cannot afford to pay. Hence, a poor health care system in the country, which is inaccessible to the majority (Beauchamp, Walters, Kahn, & Mastroianni, 2008).

Further, in the expert essay presented by Ronald Anderson (2007) it was reiterated that the structure of United States health care system is challenging to the system management itself as well as the public who are expected to access. Anderson’s 92007) contention is that these artificial structures subtly indicate that citizens have no right to health care except they pay the high cost required (Anderson, 2007).

Similarly, studies have proven that the poor seems disenfranchised regarding healthcare and it would appear that they have no right since it has been a tradition in America’s health care system than some have better access to care than others and the others have to right. It was clear during segregation that blacks had no right to health care since certain hospitals could not accept them due to the color of their skin. Today with the Jim Crow laws being over ruled one wonders if certain segments of the society still have no right to health care due to managed care improvisions(Kongstvedt, 2001).
