Infringement on state sovereignty

The argument of the national incident management system is that the management of incidences amplifies in instances where states and local agencies adopt the standards of the federal government in dealing with incidences when they occur (Hess et al, 2011, p.66). The mandating to employ the federal standards has disadvantages since the states do not have the same hazards, and as such, they prepare to deal better with the incidences as they arise since they are conversant with the hazards. Requiring conformity and creating standards enhances the involvement of federal agencies but this infringes on the state sovereignty.

Lack of operational plans and annex updates

The system of planning the national incident management system intended to integrate all levels of government in working together to deal with disasters (Klaene & Sanders, 2007, p.120). The system lacks sufficient and comprehensive plans to deal with these issues. The plan should include the process of bringing together the various plans to keep logistically comprehensive plans in order to attain the required preparedness in dealing with incidents. The annexes updated to reflect the integrated planning system.

Prominence on terrorism

The national incident management system places emphasis on terroristic orientations. It places emphasis on events that are high impact and low probability at the expense of the low impact and high probability issues (Philips et al, 2011, p.90). The occurrence of the emphasized activities is minimal while other incidents that occur have a low probability. The system does not deal effectively with these issues since there is little emphasis on the same. The requirement of the system should be to place equal emphasis on both manmade and natural disasters.
