Johns Hopkins University was founded in 1876 on a spirit of exploration and discovery. As a result, students can pursue a multi-dimensional undergraduate experience both in and outside of the classroom. Given the opportunities at Hopkins, please discuss your current interests (academic, extracurricular, personal passions, summer experiences, etc.) and how you will build upon them here. 

Johns Hopkins has one of the strongest political science institutions in the world and it has always been my dream to attend. Having a keen interest in history, the class Contemporary International Politics fulfills my passion for both history and politics, with its goal to introduce international politics and changes it sought throughout History. Other classes such as U.S. Foreign Policy will help strengthen the curiosity I have about U.S. politics, especially with the upcoming political elections.

My active personality will be brought out when being in class with professors such as P.J. Brendese, who’s the co-director for the racism, immigration, and citizenship program. Classes like P.J. Brendese’s will make me bring out my international identity, as I would participate vigorously to question and seek out more about the immigrations for students like me as well as citizenship. I believe that I will be able to actively contribute to the community at Johns Hopkins by not just participating in coursework, but by becoming involved in extracurricular activities and by socializing with my classmates as well.

Johns Hopkins’ Student Government Association (SGA) would serve as a platform for what I want to do in life; represent bodies of people through an organized structure of government. Through my involvement in this organization, I hope to build both the interpersonal and debate skills necessary to help advocate on the behalf of necessary ideals that will benefit humanity. Involvement in SGA will help me directly apply the skills that I learn in my coursework to the real world setting, which I believe will enhance my ability to confer benefit to others in the professional setting. In particular, I wish to learn how to effectively advocate for the well-being of racial and socioeconomic minorities. My involvement in the SGA and the racism, immigration, and citizenship program will help me integrate the ideas that the forefathers put forth while writing the Constitution with arguments to promote the livelihood of people in need.

As a student a John Hopkins University, I will be inspired to engage in summer internships and related opportunities that will provide me with direct experience in the field of politics. By building these experiences and relationships, I know that I will be better able to enter the professional field of my choice. My involvement in work opportunities and other extracurricular activities will allow me to apply the knowledge that I gain in my coursework to the understanding of the interactions between people and those who govern them. As a consequence, John Hopkins University is the best fit for me because the talented professors and administrators have made it so that I am able to make the best of my education during my undergraduate career so that I will be prepared for the professional world.
