Abstract

As today’s scholar is faced with a myriad of information sources, many of the sources available may not be appropriate for scholarly pursuit. In this Application, the library has been searched for peer-reviewed scholarly journals, and analysis of them takes place. Academy of Information and Management Sciences Journal, International Islamic University of Malaysia Journal of Economics and Management, Journal of Management Inquiry, Academy of Management Journal and Management Information Systems Quarterly are evaluated. The five traditional evaluation tools including accuracy, authority, objectivity, currency and coverage, all are met by the peer reviewed journals under investigation.

The first journal analyzed is Academy of Information and Management Sciences Journal. In a letter from the editor, it states:

Welcome to the third edition of the Academy of Information and Management Sciences Journal. The Academy of Information and Management Sciences is an affiliate of the Allied Academies, Inc., a non profit association of scholars whose purpose is to encourage and support the advancement and exchange of knowledge, understanding and teaching throughout the world. The AIMSJ is a principal vehicle for achieving the objectives of the organization. The editorial mission of this journal is to publish empirical and theoretical manuscripts which advance the disciplines of Management Science and Information Systems. As has been the case with the previous issues of the journals supported by the Allied Academies, the articles contained in this volume have been double blind refereed. The acceptance rate for manuscripts in this issue, 25%, conforms to our editorial policies. (Lee, 2000, p. v)

The second journal for review is International Islamic University of Malaysia Journal of Economics and Management.  The organization’s aims and objectives are stated clearly as follows: “The IIUM Journal of Economics and Management (JEM) is an internationally refereed journal published twice yearly by the Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences, International Islamic University, Malaysia. In line with the objectives of the Kulliyyah and the University, the Journal is dedicated to the development, promotion and understanding of Islamic Economics in its widest sense, including issues related to management and accounting, in order to keep scholars and relevant institutions informed on research in the field of Islamic Economics” (IIUMJEM).

The Academy of Management Journal is next for review. The academy’s mission statement reads as follows: “The mission of the Academy of Management Journal is to publish empirical research that tests, extends, or builds management theory and contributes to management practice. All empirical methods — including, but not limited to, qualitative, quantitative, field, laboratory, and combination methods — are welcome” (AMJ). It continues stating “To be published in AMJ, a manuscript must make strong empirical and theoretical contributions and highlight the significance of those contributions to the management field. Thus, preference is given to submissions that test, extend, or build strong theoretical frameworks while empirically examining issues with high importance for management theory and practice. AMJ is not tied to any particular discipline, level of analysis, or national context” (AMJ).

The Journal of Management Inquiry is next for review. “The Journal of Management Inquiry…is a refereed journal for scholars and professionals in management, organizational behavior, strategy, and human resources. Its intent is to explore ideas and build knowledge in management theory and practice, with a focus on creative, nontraditional research as well as key controversies in the field” (Journal of Management Inquiry). Management Information Systems Quarterly is next. “Welcome to MISQ Central, an electronic production of MIS Quarterly, a peer reviewed scholarly journal.  The editorial objective of the MIS Quarterly is the enhancement and communication of knowledge concerning the development of IT-based services, the management of IT resources, and the use, impact, and economics of IT with managerial, organizational, and societal implications.  Professional issues affecting the IS field as a whole are also in the purview of the journal” (MISQ).
