Results of the MBTI and Application toward Jung’s Theory of Personality Development

The results of my MBTI assessment are as follows:

My type is an INTJ which stands for Introverted, Intuitive, Thinking and Judging respectively by 44%, 50%, 12%, and 44%. Further, I am a moderately expressed introvert; I have a moderately expressed intuitive personality, a slightly expressed thinking personality and a moderately expressed judging personality. These descriptions were formulated by D. Keirsey, Jung Career Indicator, INTJ Famous Personalities and J. Butt and M. M. Heiss. I agree with some of the results such as having an intuitive personality but I think I have a higher creative part of my personality than the results showed. I agree with the slightly introverted judgmental part of my personality because I tend to think things through before being judgmental with others and tend to be supportive when creating and giving feedback. I am a leader and very objective when lending feedback to others.

Jung stated “What appears to be random behavior is actually the result of differences in the way people prefer to use their mental capacities.” (“C. Jung’s Theory”). He broke this down into perceiving and judging. He further looked into these subsystems as ‘preferences’. Some people prefer to ‘take in more information’ perceive, and others prefer to do more decision making or judge. Then he stated people are either energized by the external world, extraversion or energized by the internal world, introversion. This is a person’s psychological type. He made this discovery of types in 1921.

Understanding personality types are evident and useful for unlocking human potentials such as leadership, motivations and empathy that a person might possess and does not know quite how to unleash that behavior. Most personality tests are quite easy to understand and interpret. The knowledge gained from personality tests also helps to gain self-awareness as an added value and special strength for anyone taking them. You will rarely see someone outset to behave in an upsetting manner-they just behave that way and an outcome happens because of their personality. Many managers, recruitment centers and educators use personality tests to gain insight of potential employees to find out if a potential employee will be a collaborative team player. There is no passing or failing score, only a certain type of score that is looked for depending on what job a person is applying for or whatever reason you are taking the test.

The Ink Blot or Rorschach Test is used by psychologist to determine a person’s emotional and personality functioning as well. It is scientifically derived from algorithms. It is used to employ a thought disorder of any kind.  Of all the tests administered it is ranked in the upper eighth percentile in in-patient clinical settings. Some clinicians have raised doubts of the validity of the tests and the bias of the tests towards greater number of responses which limits the psychological conditions of accurately diagnosing a patient.

With the information given, it appears the Jung Personality test is the more reliable of the two and under objective theories would be better suited for personality testing of individuals for various situations.
