Essay

How do you back a car out of the driveway from park to driving forward?

  • Put your foot on the brake then put the car in reverse.
  • Look in the rear view mirror and driver’s and passenger’s side mirror to see if there are any vehicles coming your way.
  • You may want to turn around to look for clearance if there is no blind spot mirror.
  • When you are sure the passage way is clear touch the accelerator pedal slowly and begins to back up.
  • Turn your wheel in the opposite direction that you want the car to go.
  • Put the car in forward and press the accelerator to go forward.

What personal attributes do you have that you believe will be an asset to our company?

My personality is calm and objective with a tendency to analyze situations with a scientific notion. Further I am focused and career oriented with a high level of public service motivation. My health is in great condition and my mind is stable.

As an investigator in the field you are required to deal with individuals of varying characteristics, some which may be uncooperative and unfamiliar with the background investigative process and the federal government. Describe the skills/experience you have that would allow you to deal with these types of individuals effectively.

My skills and experience are in the field of psychology, criminology and law. I have worked as a motivational counsellor for prisons for three years and understand the psyche of the criminal mind. The rational theory suggests in an ideal society it would be best for people to make choices according to patterns of behaviour that would reflect what is conducive to what society wants. This theory is taught in prisons in attempt to rehabilitate offenders back into society. My work with criminal offenders will aid me with negotiating criminal situations in the bureau and keeping minimal situations from escalating. I have an intuitive ability to work with criminals through my work in the probation and parole sector. This position affords me the ability to conduct private investigation surveillance on the people I am in charge of supervising. I have seen some of the sneakiest criminal stow a ways whilst working as an immigration investigator. They would hide in small port holes on various ships to come to America. It often took a sixth sense to capture these criminals.

Working as a consultant investigator is not a 9-5 profession. In fact, many days start very early and many days require work in the evening and possibly on the weekends. If you are currently employed in a full-time/40 hr a week position you “must” be able to sacrifice no less than 20 hrs for this position. Please explain whether or not you are willing to accept this type of schedule and are able to complete leads and cases.

I am willing to sacrifice my current position and take this position as a full-time consultant. I believe this position warrants someone that can devote to it all of their time because it is a very important position to helping minimize crime. The Washington, D.C. and Virginia areas are considered high crime areas and need a full-time consultant to devote their energy to the job appropriately. Working as a probation officer and an immigrant officer were not ordinary 9-5 positions and quite often I would work thorough the wee hours of the morning to catch criminals. There is one thing for sure and that is that criminals work at any time of the day or night hence a good investigator must be alert and ready to catch a criminal.

As an investigator in the field, you may not have contact with your case Region Manager or Field Supervisor every day, sometimes not even on a weekly basis. Therefore, it is required that investigator’s be self-motivated, organized and disciplined. Describe why you would be able to work independently and how you would prove yourself to be a reliable and efficient investigator.

I have worked for the past three years as a liaison for the State Prison System which entails preparing my own agenda and teaching lessons to the inmates three times a week. I currently do not get any feedback from upper management other than finances available to fund the program. Being accustomed to working alone, motivating myself and organizing my own programs for learning in the past, I would certainly be a great contender for this consultant position. I am very organized, articulate, possess education in criminology and psychology and am compassionate. I further possess social skill and management training that will enable me to work with just about any person whether a criminal or a colleague. My work as a probation and parole officer and as an immigration officer has given me a proven track record of working alone and with people to solve cases. Sometimes an agent must be self-efficient and motivated and gain research on his/her own and other times she/he must utilize his/her resources to solve a case. I am willing to do both and to go the extra mile for the safety of the public.
