Keeping Dispensary Open, Essay Example

I am Malek Abdul-Mansour, manager of the Lord Baron Collective, a medical marijuana dispensary (MMD) on 4362 ½ West Adams Blvd. I am writing to you to please reconsider keeping my store open in the wake of Measure D which will force all but 135 of the MMDs to close in the city.

We are located in one of the most sensitive areas of the city, with only 15 stores in the South Los Angeles area as opposed to hundreds in the rest of the city. Our mission is to ensure that qualified patients have safe access to medical marijuana otherwise they will be forced to either travel to other areas of the city or obtain marijuana in the black market from dangerous elements such as gang members. We have been faithfully serving our patients for a long time and are concerned our patients may be left with no reliable alternative. We have a loyal client base because our patients trust us to keep their best interests at heart.

Our existence doesn’t only provide an essential service to the community residents but also helps them avoid security risks that may be presented by long-distance travel. We urge you to reconsider your decision in the best interests of the community which has long been neglected and is in desperate need of reliable access to safe medicine. Our existence will also discourage black market marijuana trade in the area and, thus, recreational marijuana use.
