Fishing refers to the act of capturing fish and other water animals from any water bodies or the gathering of water organisms or shellfish. The people who carry out this activity are called fishermen. Fishermen therefore carry out this activity either as a social engagement or an economic activity. There are two kinds of fisherman, recreational fisherman and commercial fishermen.

Commercial fishermen are the type that is engaged in fishing to catch the water animals to sell and make a living. The commercial fishermen are varied in their capacity. There are those fishermen that have motorized boats, yachts as well as even ships that they use to fish. Some have ships with refrigeration facilities that they use to process the fish and store them awaiting delivery to their sales points. On the other hand however there are the subsistent fishers who use simple methods such as hooks and dug out canoes to fish. There are other fishermen who use traps to get their fish. They then use this as their source of sustenance.

The recreational fishermen on the other hand are a different breed of fishermen who are engaged in fishing for the fun they derive from it. These fishermen mostly do small scale fishing most of which they carry out using a line and a hook. There are others who consider the fishing of other bigger fish like sharks as a thrilling sport and therefore engage in competitive sporting to determine the winner who is chosen based on the size of his catch. After all considerations fishing is a quite useful source of income to many as well as a good recreational outlet.
