Labor Management Explained

An organization has many aspects of its business that makes it successful; however, it may be arguable that the most value aspect of a business is its employees. With this in mind, it is in an organization’s best interest to properly manage employees. This is where labor management (also called human resource management) comes into play. Labor management is an organizational function that handles managing various aspects of human resources, such as recruitment and training of the people within an organization. This includes managing aspects of human resources such as hiring, firing, compensation, performance evaluations, organizational development, wellness, safety, benefits, employee morale, organizational communication, and administration (Inc., 2014).

Reflection

My view on the purpose of labor management is that I agree that it is indeed necessary for the success of an organization. Labor management is good to implement into an organization’s success strategies, as it is important to properly manage people with the organizational culture and environment in mind, to keep in line with organizational objectives. This is particularly true for diverse organizations, as proper communication and a uniform approach to managing is important, as well. Labor management is also a good way for an organizational to utilize the skills and abilities of its employees most effectively. This adds much value to an organization.

Question to Ponder

Can an organization still be successful without efficient management of its labor relations, which includes labor management? This is something that, personally, I think is not possible. Labor management is an organization’s most important asset, according to Inc. (2014), and it is stated that an organization will be unsuccessful if it does not manage this resource effectively and efficiently. However, some may think differently about the question.
