Larry Johnson, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 270

Essay

I’m writing to you on the behalf of Larry Johnson. Although he has recently been incarcerated, I believe that his crime is not worthy of the punishment received and that it would better benefit the judicial system and society as a whole if he were to be released early and sentenced to probation or community service instead.

Those who know Larry personally know him as a good person, and he has helped many people throughout his life. While recent events have made him appear to be a common criminal, Larry has many strong attributes that make him worthy of returning to society. During college, he was an honor student who used his expertise in economics to tutor others in math. Furthermore, his volunteer experiences demonstrated that he cared greatly for the community. While earning his bachelor’s degree, he used his free time to volunteer for members of the elderly community and to become involved in politics. Larry’s contributions to these efforts include gathering for the UN election to get signatures in addition to assisting with the Eric Adams, Ken Thompson, and Bill deBlasiocampaigns. His interest in politics stemmed from the belief that he would be able to use his involvement to help New York City residents and often appeared to be more interested in the well-being of others than his own.

I’m writing to you as a plea to reconsider Larry Johnson’s sentencing. Many members of the community are shocked at what happened and do not believe that his incarceration is worthy of the crime. Rather, he belongs back in the community that he loves, doing the work that benefits us all.
